12-18 PICS FROM THE WEEK

Reading to Pre-K and Kindergarten. We are great teachers!

Peer Helpers...we love when we have a few minutes to explore the room with them!
(Personally, I think 6th grade loves it even more!)

Adam, reading to us. We are so glad he will be back with us next semester!!

Working on our secret letters to our classmates. We can't wait to open our stockings!

I probably shouldn't share the next two pics but you can't see the final product so all is good ;)!

Watching Adam open the cards and ornament we made him.

Sharing music with the Sheranian family.

Sharing a published book.

12-18 NEWSLETTER

Hi! This will be the last newsletter of 2015…can you even believe it?! We have had a busy week. The kids are doing their best to contain their excitement and get some work done :)! We had fun making some surprises…can’t say what but you will find out soon. We got to go on some in-house field trips. Thursday morning we went to fourth grade and listened to their research on famous people. Thursday afternoon we had a special visit from Canon’s family. We enjoyed spending some musical time with them! Friday we went to the middle school arcade. They actually made all of the games themselves!

We have some more fun activities planned for next week. Monday, our wing will “travel” through four countries to see how they celebrate Christmas. Our Pre-K, Kindergarten, First and Second Grade groups will intermix as they do activities in Mexico, Germany, Italy and England. Our plane “leaves” at 11:50 and “returns” at 2:00 if you want to stop by.  Don’t worry, we already ordered our passports ;)!

On Tuesday, we will open our stockings to read all of the kind notes our classmates wrote to us.  We will share our holiday readers’ theaters with Pre-K and Kindergarten. After lunch, our Primary Wing will turn into a Cinema. Students will get to pick which short holiday film they would like to attend, after they go to concessions :). We will end the day together as an entire school family at our 1:00 assembly in the gym. Should be a great two days!

ITEMS OF INTEREST

*  We were scientists on Monday as we experimented with light.

*  We taught Pre-K and Kindergarten how to read reindeer books. We had fun using the
books to do some word work with them!

*  We talked about needs and wants with our Peer Helpers.

VACATION HOMEWORK

There is no actual assignment. However, please have your child try to read as many days as possible for at least fifteen minutes. It is really important for them to keep reading so that they do not regress over vacation. If you want to practice math, addition facts to ten should be known quickly. Skip counting and any type of board or card games are great!

Happy New Year!

I have enjoyed working with you and your child in 2015. I know 2016 will be even better! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and restful vacation. Thank you for all of your support! See you next year ;)!

FIRST GRADE SCIENTISTS

We experimented with light today. It was wonderful to hear the kids talking about their predictions and observations. They are quite the scientists!

12-11 NEWSLETTER

Hi! What a great week! The kids have been on stage a lot! They definitely are beginning to feel comfortable up there :)! We finished up our fairy tale unit with our play, THE RUNAWAY UNICORN. It was great to see so many of you there. The kids were amazing! We will finish out the year with a small unit on Mexican traditions. We will also finish up our Light and Communication unit in science.

The Kindness Elf is visiting our room! He came today. We were so excited to see him. He left us a note with a special Random Act of Kindness we should do. Ask your child what it was. As part of this kindness theme we made stockings to act as mailboxes. We are writing special notes to each other that we will open on our last day before vacation. I did tell the kids if they had something already at home that they would like to add to these (such as a Hershey kiss) they may as long as there is one for everyone. No one needs to go out a buy something. We are focusing on giving from the heart!

We learned about reindeer this week and even made some. You might have seen one of our projects at the concert! We did some non-fiction writing to go with our reindeer.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

  • Happy Birthday to Phineas who turned seven on Tuesday.

ANOTHER GREAT PERFORMANCE!

First Grade has been on the stage a lot this week! Tonight was Veazie Community School's Holiday Concert. They did a great job with their three songs. I especially loved the song they performed with the entire school called A SONG OF PEACE. It was beautiful to see them signing as they sang.
