Hi! What an exciting week! We are a Blue Ribbon School! Of course, I always
knew we were but now it’s official. It’s great to work in such a supportive and pro-school
community. The kids, school employees, parents, families and town all had a part in
making VCS what it is. It’s a great day to be a Viking :).
READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS
We started using a new reading/phonics program on our Chrome books. It is on
our portaportals. It’s called Lalilo. The school login is EANPRC. The students know how
to use it incase they want to use it at home.
We made snowflake people and then wrote stories about the day we turned into
a snowflake. Writing times is one of the kids’ favorite times of day. They are taking lots
of risks and getting very creative. It’s fun to watch!
We added the rest of the gas giants into our Family of the Sun books. We have
written lots of the information in our books, too.
MATH
We are doing lots with place value. We learned Expanded Form so we’d be able
to know what each digit is worth in a number. We worked with dollars, dimes and
pennies as they relate to place value. We will add nickels and quarters, soon.
ITEMS OF INTEREST
● We will be going to the University of Maine Emera Planetarium on Thursday,
Feb. 13th. We will leave school at 9:10 and return at 10:50. No money is needed.
● Friday, Feb. 14th we will be making friendship sundaes to kick off vacation. We
will also open our Valentine’s on this day. I’ve attached a class list and ways you
can help with our sundae party.
