SECOND GRADE NEWS 3-31-17
Hi! What a great week! We got a lot done while having lots of fun! We worked with Miss Noel to create murals of the habitat we researched last week. We also used the information to write papers to hang by them. Many even chose to type their reports which they then had to share with me so I could print. They are getting so good at using their Chrome Books to expand their learning!
We started a Geometry unit in Math. We are learning about angles, parallel lines, polygons and many other shapes. We had fun using straws and twist ties to make shapes.
The Primary Wing earned 200 points by being extra quiet in the hallway these past two weeks. Each class was able to make their own schedule for Friday. Second Grade did a super job picking their favorite things to do during each subject block. Ask your child what s/he liked best about the day.
We finished reading DRAGON MASTERS...well as much as we could. The final book in the series doesn’t come out until September. I already pre-ordered it and promised them I would let them borrow it! We turned one of our classroom walls into tribute to the books. We have some unbelievable artists in our room! We will have a special Dragon Day on Monday. A huge thank you to our PTO for sponsoring the special activities we will be doing!!
We added Epic to our Portaportal. The kids can go on Epic and pick out of thousands of books to read for free. There is also an option to listen to some books and educational videos to watch. Your child can use this at home by going to www.portaportal.com and typing in VSC2 into the guest box. The password from there is AJS- 1260. They know how to find it from there. Thank you to the Webber and Taylor families for introducing us to this awesome program!
To help a little with our Spring Fever we started using Star Links as a behavior reward system. Students can earn links many different ways: listening, working hard, being kind and being responsible. On Fridays ten links can buy one coupon. Coupons range from wearing pajamas or hats to school to bringing a show and tell. Many of you probably remember this from last year. Treat box is one of the coupon options. Donations to it are greatly appreciated. Treat box ideas are: party souvenir type toys and individually wrapped snacks.
