SECOND GRADE NEWS 4-28-17

SECOND GRADE NEWS 4-28-17

Hi! It’s great to be back from vacation. The kids are rested and ready to go! We added plants into animal unit. Miss Noel did a fun activity with us that taught us the many ways seeds can be spread. Ask your child about it!
A special thank you to Mrs. Sheranian who came in and showed us some amazing pictures of a trip she went on. We used our habitat and animal knowledge to figure out they were from Africa. It was great seeing and hearing about the beautiful savannah and all the animals there. We will continue learning about plant, animals and habitats the remainder of the year.

WILLY WONKA JR.

Our Primary Musical is off and running. This is the biggest and most difficult one we have ever tried. It’s very exciting and the kids are doing great! Our show is scheduled for Thursday, June 8th at 6:30 pm. We will be doing a dress rehearsal for the school that same day at 1:00. It will last about an hour. Second Graders all have speaking lines and are their own individual characters. If you have any ideas for your child’s costume, let us know. We will find costumes for anyone who doesn’t come up with one so no worries!! We will send out more information as we get going with more rehearsals.

MATH

We are on our last math unit. It works with fractions. We have learned about the numerator and the denomination, top and bottom number. I talk to the kids about ½ meaning one out of two equal pieces. We’ve practiced dividing shapes into equal parts. We also know a fraction with the same number on top and bottom is the same as one whole. They are getting very good with them!
You will notice different types of homework coming home for math for the remainder of the year. It will still be on the topic of that day’s lesson.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

  • Miss Noel’s last day is Monday. It’s been great having her with us the past seven weeks. We wish her the best with her future teaching career!

HAPPY WEEKEND!
