NEWSLETTER 11-2-18

FIRST GRADE NEWS
NOVEMBER 2
MRS. KIMBALL

Dear Parents,

Hi! I can't even believe it's already November! We have had an awesome week. Thank you to everyone who came to our play on Wednesday. I couldn't be more proud of the first grade. Their hard work certainly paid off.  The kids were so excited to be able to share their stories and robotics with you after the play as well.
We started learning about sound and light in Science this week. We also started learning about maps in Social Studies. We will continue with these topics all month.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We worked on watermelon and seed stories in Writing. The kids picked one type and had to write a story about first grade. Watermelon stories have a much broader theme. Seed stories are detailed. Both, however, stick to one topic.
We finished reading CHARLOTTE'S WEB. Charlotte taught us a lot about how to be a good friend. We will begin the DRAGON MASTERS' series next week.

MATH

We worked with realizing that it doesn't matter where the = sign is located as long as both sides of it are the same. This will help us when figuring out math problems. We learned how to do Frames and Arrows. Frames hold the number while the arrows has us use the rule to change the number.
