First Grade News 9-11-20

Hi! We have had a great week! The kids are really getting used to our schedule and all the new safety procedures. We did lots of work on how to visualize 6 feet. We taped two yardsticks together to show them. We then practiced it. Please keep discussing this very hard concept to your child(ren). They forget quickly when they are playing outside. They do know when we say airplane or spacing it means they are too close.

We read the book, David Goes to School, and drew David and wrote our own school rules. We added Lalilo and Rocket Spelling to things we can now do on our chrome books. Prodigy and Epic are still the favorites! It's amazing how good they are all getting at signing into Google and getting to Portaportal to choose their app.

We started our chapter book read aloud, Pixie Tricks. It's a very exciting eight book series we read each day after our lunch/recess break. We finished book one this week!

We worked with rhyming words and the short a sound. We read Mo Willems book. We wrote another thank you note to someone who made us all reversible masks.

Today was Playground Day. We had a picnic on our towels. Some chose to eat in the tent. This was perfect because we got to get on the playground as soon as we were done. :)

We played Guess Box. We got hand pointers that let us high five each other safely. They really wanted to take these home (sorry haha).

You may have noticed a couple of copied books that came home this week. When you see these kinds of books please take a moment to listen to your child read it to you. We will be sending more of them home for you to keep. We will also start sending real books for at home practice. These will need to come back to school to be quarantined and then used again. :)

Thank you again for all your kind words and support. We are really enjoying your kids. They are kind, polite and hard workers with creative and fun personalities!
