A "NOT SO SUMMER" SUMMER DAY

Hi! I spent this dreary summer day having lots of fun getting ready for my sweet little first graders! I made lots of new sight words games and super hero locker tags. I love looking for and making new things for the classroom! Tomorrow Colin, my son, and I are heading to the new Emera Astronomy Center at the University of Maine. If you haven't been there, it is definitely worth checking out! They are showing lots of different titles this summer. You can get a schedule on their website: http://astro.umaine.edu/visit/. We will study space in March. Enjoy your summer adventures!

Welcome 2015 - 2016 First Graders!

Hi! I hope you are all having a great start to your vacation! It was so great to talk to most of you at Step Up Day on Monday. I've been busy already getting our room organized for all of the fun we will have together next year! I have some new and exciting things planned for us!! In the meantime, have fun in the sun! I heard there are some awesome ponds in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Have an adult take you for a walk there and see if you can observe any amphibians, reptiles, mammals, insects, birds and/or fish. You can even find things right in your own backyard! Get outside and explore! You can write to me and let me know what you see :)! lkimball@veaziecs.org

End of Year News

FIRST GRADE NEWS
JUNE 12
MRS. KIMBALL

Dear Parents,

Hi! I can’t believe this is my last newsletter!! This year has been awesome! You have the best kids! I have enjoyed each day I have spent with them! Thank you for being so supportive this year. No wonder your kids are so great! Make sure you visit as they grow older.  I want to hear about all of the amazing things they do!

This week we did lots of finishing up.  We finished our Spelling books and Poetry books.  We said good-bye to our peer helpers. We made sponge painted ocean animals on our tie-dyed t-shirts. We made sharks and sea horses. We watched the movie ANDRE after finishing the book.

SUMMER WORK

Your kids have learned so much this year.  Please make sure they keep reading at least four times a week.  If you set up a special time before bed and designate twenty minutes for reading, it will become habit.  Also, any chance you get, have your child continue to count money.  This will only make second grade math easier :)!
