NEWSLETTER 2-16-18

Dear Parents,

Hi! What a great week! We had so much fun finishing our fairy tale unit by performing
our play for you all. Thank you so much for finding a way to get here. Every child had
someone here to perform for. That says a lot about all of you! No wonder your kids are
so great...they can tell how much you care! It was fun watching them share their projects
and school work after the show. I am very proud of each and every one of them!

We finished our Matter unit. We took a test to see what we learned. It was fun to look
back at our pre-test when the entire class thought the three states of matter were Maine,
California and Texas :)! Everyone did great and showed lots of learning. To celebrate we
combined liquids to make an edible solid...ice cream! Ask your child about it!

Our next units will be on maps and Dr. Seuss. We will do a special project the week after
vacation in response to the book, FLAT STANLEY. Be thinking about where you can send
your “Flat Child” to...a relative or friend somewhere in the world. I will be asking for an
address the week we come back.

We have been playing Kahoot. It’s like a game show where I give them questions and
hey answer through their Chrome books. The kids LOVE it! So far, I have made lots of math
and matter games. As each question is answered it scores the child on speed and accuracy.
At the end of each question it shows the class on the projector who the leaders are. At the end
it puts the top three students on a podium to get medals. Ask your child about it.

In addition to our Olympic study I found a great Olympic website that the kids have loved using.
It is on portaportal if they want to use it during vacation.

VACATION “HOMEWORK”

I am not giving out any mandatory homework for vacation week. However, it would be very
beneficial to make sure your child keeps reading for at least 15 minutes a day. Also, if your
child is looking to practice some math facts or check out some animal webcams, they know
how to use all of the portaportal sites. Our class password is VCS2. Hope you have a chance
to get outside and enjoy the great weather they are predicting during our break!

HAPPY VACATION!
