SLIDING INTO SECOND - A NEW BEGINNING WITH OLD FRIENDS

Hi! WOW...still getting used to seeing my name with the Second Grade title :)! I am beyond excited to be moving up with your kids! We are going to have another great year together filled with lots of exciting units!

I am hoping to keep in contact with the kids over the summer. My email address is:  lkimball@veaziecs.org. I promise to write back each time I hear from him/her. This will be a great way to keep your child writing :)! Another way you can keep in touch is with our classroom blog. Although the name will be changing, can’t use Fun in First Grade in Second Grade, I will keep the same website address to make it easier for everyone that has already been using it: http://vcslk1.blogspot.com.

The kids all made great gains in reading and math this year. To make sure they keep those gains it is important that they keep using these skills. Please make sure your child continues to read throughout the summer. They are at the stage that they can even read to themselves for twenty minutes before bedtime. However, they still love to listen to stories and to read to adults as well. Math can be practiced through the IXL site. Board games are another great way to practice math...and they’re fun :)!

We will still have the same specials (PE, Art, Music, Guidance, Spanish and Library) while adding more computer time and Lego Robotics in. We will continue using Spelling Connections and Everyday Math. We will be writing in every subject and publishing more. Our school is in year 2 of a 3 year transition into a new Science program. Being new to Second Grade, I will use the new program only.
