First Grade News 1-28-22

Hi Hope you are enjoying the snow...we're definitely getting enough of it! Just a quick update on what is going on in grade one! We continue learning about Space. We are currently heading towards Uranus in our planets study. We finally found some joeys in our Australian study of kangaroo/joey ratio study. We were glad because that means it will probably end up being a healthy ratio. We just finished up unit five in math. This concludes our first math book. After we finish the assessment we will begin our new book.

Next week, Ms. Bilodeau will be doing some fun activities with us to learn about Chinese New Year. Be sure to ask your child each day what they did. Friday we will be wearing RED as a part of these lessons.

We will be celebrating Friendship Day on Monday, February 14th. Lists went home yesterday in case you want to send in cards or treats. They can start coming in anytime on/after Monday, Feb. 7th. The paper also told how you can help us with our ice cream sundae party.

The kids have been changing their masks out during the day when they get wet. Please make sure to send in extras in their backpacks. We are out of the extra box of disposable ones we had donated.

Stay Safe and Warm!

Pics From Week Ending 1-20-22

The Runaway Unicorn was a huge success!

We did the play for Pre-K and Kindergarten.

After the play we read them the fairy tales we had written.

Happy Weekend!

First Grade News 1-20-22

Hi! What a great week! We have some wonderful actors and actresses in our room! They did awesome in the play! We did it on Wednesday for the Pre-K and Kindergarten. I couldn't have been more proud of them. I know it is nerve wracking getting up in front of an audience to perform. They learned all their lines, songs and actions. Mr. Arell helped me tape a second performance on Thursday. I will try to put it on the blog but not sure if it'll work. I will definitely be emailing it out to you. We were unfortunately missing one of our 14 stars on taping day. I didn't tape on the day with an audience thinking it would be better for taping their voices in a quieter setting. We will do another play in the spring. Let's hope we can get you all in to watch it live!

We continue to learn about space. We made it to Venus and decided we would not want to visit there. Ask your child why. We will be going to the UMaine Planetarium on Feb. 16th to see Secrets of the Cardboard Box. If you haven't been to a show up there, it's definitely worth checking out. There are a ton of good ones. They do family shows on Sundays at 2:00. Just call ahead to reserve seats. This month is The Magic Tree House: Space Mission. Adults are $7 and Kids are $5. The show is about an hour. We're not seeing this one so it would be a great one to go to! You can check out all the Planetarium Shows at www.astro.umaine.edu. They have shows for all ages!
