PICS WEEK ENDING 1-29-21

Sliding fun, Robotics, Show and Share and some space projects!

Happy Weekend...Stay Warm!

First Grade News 1-29-21

Hi! What a busy week! I know I say that every week haha but we do get a lot done! This is such a great group of kids...always ready for more! This week we made it to Jupiter. We also talked about the inner and out planets and then rocky vs. gas planets. Reminder, if you haven't checked out the SkyView app., you should! It's free and so cool. It will tell you what's up in the sky. I was able to find the constellation, Orion the Hunter last night! We also continue our search through Go2Science for the Galapagos Penguins! We will continue with this throughout vacation.

ELA/MATH

We continue to read and write daily. We are writing in our Family of the Sun books and have started a heart shaped book. We are working with place value, time and using double fact helpers to solve addition problems. This means knowing how 5+5 can help you figure out 5+6.

VALENTINE'S DAY

Reminder, valentines should be sent in on or before Wednesday, February 10th so that we can make sure they are germ free when opened on the 12th. Please look in your child's folder on Monday for how you can help with our party. I'll also throw in a class list.

SESSION ONE ROBOTICS

Reminder that Robotics this week will be Tuesday instead of Wednesday because of the half day.

REMINDER:

Wednesday is an early release day. We will still eat lunch at school.

Happy Weekend!

PICS WEEK ENDING 1-22-21

Researching planets, decorating rockets, Space toys, Lego Robotics
and checking out the Kids NASA website...
First Grade is out of this world!

Happy Weekend!

First Grade News 1-22-21

Hi! We accomplished a lot in a short week. We added a few more planets to our Family of the Sun books. We continued our search for penguins on the Galapagos Islands. We were amazed at all the sea lions there! We saw 165 in just one day. Some were even sleeping on park benches and in backyards. We decided we'd love to go outside and see a sea lion in our backyard sunning itself!

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We finished reading all of the Robert Munsch books. He is amazing! Ask your child which book was his/her favorite! We visited his website. It is on our portaportal. We love our extra read alouds during snack and lunch. We get read at least ten books a day!

Great job helping with the reading homework. We appreciate you sending the books back the next day. The kids are very excited about getting to bring them home to share them with you!

MATH

We finished our math book!!! The kids were so excited and proud...as they should be! They've worked very hard. We will begin book two next week.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

* We found Orbit gum in the Guess Box. Ask your child why Orbit gum would be a good thing for us to find in there right now.

* Awesome App: Skyview. Go outside and check out the sky!

* Wednesday, Feb. 3rd is our next early release day.

* Friday, Feb. 12th is our last day before Feb. break. It will also be our Valentine's Party. I will give you the list of names now through email and let you know what we need for supplies next week. Valentines should be turned in on or before Wednesday, February 10th. This way we can make sure they are safe to open (thinking about contact tracing).

REMINDER

We have done an amazing job at keeping us here at school. We would MUCH rather be here five days a week than go remote. Please make sure to keep your child home if s/he is not feeling well and/or there has been some kind of exposure. We know the whole Covid thing is getting old. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Let's work together to keep us all healthy and in school through to summer. Thank you for all you have done so far. The communication and diligence has been wonderful with this group!

Happy Weekend!
