NEWSLETTER 1-20-17

SECOND GRADE NEWS 1-20-17

Hi! We’ve been very busy for a short week! We read books about matter. We looked at the properties of matter and actually sorted and compared different types. We learned that just because gasoline has the word gas in it, it is actually a liquid ;)!

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We wrote a biography about one of our classmates. Sixth grade visited with the snowmen they made by reading our directions. It was fun to see the parts we left out...like saying glue the parts together! We edited our work and added the necessary directions. Our snowmen are hanging with the directions we wrote in the hall with the sixth grade snowmen. It was such a fun activity that sixth grade is now writing directions for us to follow!
I cannot stress enough how important it is for your child to be reading at least twenty minutes each night before bed. It is such a good habit to get them into and it can do nothing but help them. If you need books, they can always borrow some home from the room or library.
MATH

We finished up unit five and took the assessment. Homelinks come home Monday - Thursday nights. These should not take more than fifteen minutes.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

  • We are halfway to third grade. We are working to become independent and confident students with positive mindsets!

  • We watched the 3-5 musical, Space Pirates, today! It will be performed again tonight at 6:00 pm if you would like to check it out :)!

Happy Weekend!
