FIRST GRADE NEWS 3-6-2020

We are off to a great new month! This week has been very busy as we finished up our Space and Map units. Our field trip to the UMaine Planetarium was so much fun! We will continue to work with maps as our Flat Stanley replies come back. We will do a quick unit on American Symbols next in Social Studies. In Science we will do a mini unit on engineering.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We have lots of reading happening! I love this time of year. It’s great to see them get lost in a book! We invented and wrote about constellations. We continue to work on getting rid of backwards letters and numbers. If you catch your child writing one, please have them fix them.

MATH

We have been working with subtraction this week. We know two ways to solve a subtraction equation. We can count up from the small number till we get to the larger number or we can count backwards. Either way is acceptable. It’s also okay to use fingers or to draw out the problem.
