First Grade News 12-11-20

Hello! The holiday excitement has found our classroom. We've had lots of fun writing letters to each other and mailing them in our holiday pouches. We also made and wrapped parent gifts. We hope you like them. The kids were so cute making them...very serious!

We are learning about traditions and different ways people celebrate them. We learned about Hanukkah on Thursday. We had latkes and applesauce as we played dreidel. We also shared many Hanukkah books. It was a fun day! We will be learning about Germany next week.

Speaking of traditions...we would like the kids to share about one of their family traditions. It doesn't have to be Christmas. It could be anything you do each year together. The kids can bring in pictures or items to show as they talk about it. We will be sharing on Friday, December 18th through Tuesday, December 23rd.

Mr. Hathaway answered all of our questions about the light display out front of our school. It was very interesting! He has been doing this special light show for the last nine years. He is already planning for next year! He used 55,000 lights in this year's display. The mega tree in the center has 22,000 lights alone! If you push the red button out front, it will light up the Veazie letters. We took time this week to write letters to Santa and mail them in the special mailbox out front.
