FIRST GRADE NEWS
JANUARY 25th
MRS. KIMBALL
Dear Parents,
Hi! We "traveled" to Saturn and Uranus this week. Saturn was one of our favorites because of it's beautiful rings. Ask your child what the rings are made of. We found ring pops in the Guess Box after learning about Saturn. We will continue with our space theme until February break.
READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS
We read an Eric Carle book called PAPA, PLEASE GET ME THE MOON. As a response we did a three day art project to go with the book. We also wrote about what we would like to do with the moon if we really could catch it. We also made shooting stars and wrote our wishes on them.
We wrote about DRAGON MASTERS. We also continued to write on our own individual stories.
MATH
We started our new math book. We are learning new ways to help with addition facts if we get stuck. This week we concentrated on using double facts to find the answer to other problems. For example: 6+6=12 so we know 6+7=one more than 12.
We started learning about time to the hour. Right now the book only has the kids using the hour hand. I have been using the minute hand on our clock in the room as well.
HAPPY WEEKEND!
