Hi! We’ve had a great week! We made space murals that are now hanging with
our astronaut shaped books in the hall. We added Jupiter into our Family of the Sun
books. We checked out our classroom maps to see if we could find where we lived on the
Veazie map. We also checked out the world map to see where all of the continents, countries
and states are located. We’re practicing knowing our location starting with our town going as big
as our galaxy. We sent out almost all of our Flat Selves. We can’t wait to get responses to put
on our map! We will continue with these themes through February break (and as long as the
responses keep coming in).
During Morning Work we have been working on using capitals in correct places,
punctuation, grammar, verb tenses, spelling and rhyming. It’s exciting to watch the kids
becoming more and more independent in their reading and writing! Keep reading each night.
We learned how double facts can help us solve other math problems. We will learn lots
of different techniques this year in hope each student will take the one that works best for
him/herself to keep using. We also worked with time to the minute.
