GRADES 1-2 NEWS 5-11-18

Hi! What a special week it’s been. A huge thank you to our PTO members for being so
generous this Teacher Appreciation Week. Veazie is such a great town to work in!
We learned about the layers of the Earth and how they affect changes in the land.
We talked about volcanoes and the one that is currently exploding in Hawaii. We looked
at a map to see where all of the volcanoes are located and were relieved to not find any
near us! Next week we will take a look at earthquakes.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

Books For Bikes is currently happening! Your child can earn tickets by reading a book
or a chapter and filling out a bike ticket. Two girls and two boys from our room will win
bikes on Monday, June 11. I’ve told the kids they can borrow books anytime to read at
home. We met Lynn Plourde, Maine author, on Wednesday. It was fun acting out one of
her books and hearing her teach us about writing. We’ve enjoyed reading her books the
past couple of weeks!

MATH

Second Grade will finish their math program next week. They will then join First Grade in
doing some review and learning some new concepts. We are currently working on addition
with carrying and subtraction with borrowing.
