GRADES 1-2 NEWS 5-4-18

Hi! We have been busy this week! We kept our theme of Changes to the
Land by learning about quick changes. The kids had so much fun experimenting
with baking soda, vinegar and clay to see how volcanoes create new land. We
spent time in the school garden planting onions, beets, spinach, carrots and radishes.
It was interesting seeing the different size seeds. We were able to check out the garlic
we planted in the fall. It’s coming along great! Thank you Tom and Melissa Stone for
helping us become good gardeners!

We had two special days this week. On Wednesday we said goodbye to Mr. Jason.
He was very surprised. We will miss him and his origami talents! On Friday we celebrated
May the Fourth (May the Force...Star Wars). We made edible lightsabers, ate Han Solo
Rolos, did Star Wars themed lessons, painted Death Stars and had a Star Wars photo
booth. Thank you to everyone who sent in items for these special days.

We are collecting words during Reading Workshop. As we read, we jot down words that
stand out to us. We are adding them to our Wonderful Words Wall so we can use them
in our writing.

We got mail from Australia! It was exciting to see pictures from a different country! We
checked out Fourth Grade’s Projects today. They did a great job presenting! We loved
seeing so many of our classroom siblings!
