FIRST GRADE NEWS 9-6-18

FIRST GRADE NEWS
SEPTEMBER 6
MRS. KIMBALL

Dear Parents,

Hi! We have had a very busy four days! We continue getting to know our new classroom and schedule. Our theme throughout September is Friends. We are working on creating a school family where everyone feels safe and welcome.

 READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

Mrs. Logan, our Literacy Specialist, has been testing all of the first graders to check their reading and writing skills. She will be picking four kids to work with for the next sixteen weeks as part of the Reading Recovery program. She will let those four families know next week.
We wrote All About Me papers to go with the Minions we made. It was fun making Minions that look like us!
We read the book DANDELION which showed how important it is to be ourselves. We then made special projects to go with the book. You can check them out at Open House Wednesday.
We are currently in book two of The Pixie Tricks Series. The kids LOVE these books! There are eight in the set. Ask your child which pixies we have read about so far.

MATH

We used rulers as straight edges to help with a project. We just might have some future architects in our class! We did some calendar work as we made our Sept. calendar. We are also working on the Beginning of the Year Assessment.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

*  Wednesday, Sept. 12th from 5:30 - 7:00 is our Open House / Spaghetti Dinner.

*  Wednesday, Sept. 19th is Picture Day. More info coming soon.

CAN YOU HELP US?

We would love some treats for our treat box. I'm looking for party souvenir type things. It can be used or newly bought. Thank you in advance for your help :)!

HAPPY WEEKEND!
