NEWSLETTER 9-21

FIRST GRADE NEWS
SEPTEMBER 21
MRS. KIMBALL

Hi! We had a great week! We added Reading Workshop to our daily schedule. The kids are doing a great job reading quietly from their book boxes. After they get their individual reading time they get to partner up and read to a friend.

We read the book, INTERRUPTING CHICKEN, this week. We talked a lot about what we can do instead of interrupting. We also talked about why it's not good to be an Interrupting Chicken. Please ask your child about it.

We finished our last math lesson in unit one. The kids loved doing explorations. Explorations are basically math centers that let students explore math manipulatives. We will take our unit one assessment on Monday.

We took our first NWEA this week. All grades from first to eighth take these computer assessments twice a year. First Grade takes English/Language Arts and Math. These are great in the way they break down what the kids know and are ready to learn.

We rewrote the book, A MY NAME IS ALICE. We turned it into a wall story. It's fun to read around the room!

Today we celebrated friendship! We made Friendship Bread. We made cards for secret pals. It was a fun day! Thank you to everyone who sent in items to help with this!

I am sending home a blank Progress Note today. These will start coming home each Friday starting next week. I went over them with the kids today.

HAPPY WEEKEND!
