Hi! What a three days it's been! We squeezed in a lot in a short time. We started a new unit in science on Light and Sound. Ask your child how sounds are made. Hopefully they will come up with the word vibrations.
We had a few people finish writing their stories so they were able to share with the class. This is a big deal in first grade. They love reading their work to the class and especially love asking for questions and comments. Ask your child what they are working on right now for a book. Brainstorm ideas that they could write about next.
We are gaining momentum in our reading. I didn't want it to stop. If your child comes home with a bag of books, please make sure they spend time reading each day. Most books are ones they know. However, I did put in some new ones to keep their interest going. Just send the books back when you've listened to them enough ;). Also, I can refill the bag if you'd like a bunch on your child's level for reading at home. I'll just keep refilling as you are done. Just stick a note in the bag that says refill if you'd like another.
We are going to the fire station on Monday. Bus leaves at 8:25 and returns at 9:35. I sent out an online sign up. I also put paper sign-ups in folders. If you signed up on-line after I put the paper one in, just disregard the paper. Feel free to join us. Just be in our room by 8:30.
We had a Veteran's Day celebration today. Mrs. Slininger came in to speak about serving as an aircraft mechanic on a fighter aircraft. We also sang You're a Grand Ol' Flag. We recognized Smitty and Mr. Morin from our VCS Staff for their service. We had many kids in our classroom that spoke of relatives that served or are still serving.
It was great to see half of you last night at conferences. I look forward to seeing the rest of you tonight. You have some pretty great kids!
Happy Weekend!
