First Grade News and Pics 1-5-24

Happy New Year! We've had a great four days getting used to our school routine again. We celebrated the New Year by making a toast, in writing and edible form! We also wrote the things we want to see and do this year in a fireworks display.

We read lots of snow books. We wrote about what we like to do in the snow. Seif's mom came in and made edible snowballs with us. We decorated popcorn balls with lots of different yummy things! It was a great activity to do after reading the story Snowballs, by Lois Ehlert.

We started our Space Unit by reading a few books and enjoying time with the space toys. We will really get started with it next week. A really cool, free app you can get on your phone is called SkyView Lite. It will tell you what is above you in the sky. It's fun seeing the different planets, stars and constellations that are out each night. Check it out with your child.

If you are cleaning out from the holidays and have things you are getting rid of, don't forget our treat box! We love junk! We love new stuff, too, in case you see any good deals on little toys or trinkets.

We are also in need of markers. Please send in a pack of markers for your child's desk. Thank you to those that already did. We have gone through all of the ones I ordered at the beginning of the year. We'd love some extras for our share buckets, too. Thank you in advance for your help with this. :)

Looks like we might be needing snow pants and boots again next week. We've been pretty spoiled so far in regards to getting ready for recess! However, we are excited to hopefully get the playground sleds out.

Happy Weekend!
