NEWSLETTER 2-17-17

SECOND GRADE NEWS 2-17-17

What a crazy weather week! As much as I love watching the kids enjoy the snowbanks at recess, I am so ready for the banks along the roads to disappear!!

We did get quite a bit accomplished even with the snow day and delayed start. We had lots of fun celebrating Valentine’s Day and the 100th Day of School. Zero the Hero came to read to us, we wrote about our lives now that we are “100 years old”, opened valentines and had ice cream sundaes.

We received mail from our California pen pals. We wrote back to them. We took some snow pictures so we could show them how much snow we have. We’ve been brainstorming ways on how we can send them some of our snow!

We turned liquid into a solid by doing lots of shaking. We worked in teams to shake heavy cream until it turned into butter. We used our butter on biscuits. It was delicious.

The kids were surprised that they actually took their Spelling and Dictation Tests today while we were practicing on our slates. Dictation was fun...each person had one word of the sentence to write and then they had to put themselves in order.

VACATION HOMEWORK

Please make sure your child continues to read over vacation. They can read to you or to themselves. Board and card games are a fun way to practice math skills as well.

LOOKING AHEAD

  • Maine author and photographer, Roger Stevens, will visit us on Wednesday, March 1st.

  • We are getting a student teacher. Miss Noel will be with us starting Monday, March 6th for eight weeks.

  • We will be going swimming at the Bangor YMCA again this year. We will get to go six times for lessons and free swim. More information will be coming home after vacation.

  • We will be making leprechaun traps at school as a part of an engineering unit. Please start collecting things you would like to donate to this project. Some ideas are: boxes, anything sparkly, stickers...whatever your child thinks will work. I will also have things here for them to use.

HAPPY VACATION!!
