First Grade News and Pics 12-12-25

Hi! Day 6-7 has come and gone. It was a big hit! It does fit perfectly with our grade since the kids are all 6 or 7. We were so busy I didn't get any pictures!

It was great seeing so many of you at the concert Wednesday night. The kids did a great job singing. Our tradition shares continue to go great! Thanks for helping your child get ready for their presentation.

The kids were excited to bring home their special bags for you. If they let you open it early, I hope you liked it. They love making things to share at home!

We started making Christmas notes for each other! We deliver them to the stockings we made this week. We will open all of our letters next Friday! I love seeing the kids write thoughtful notes for their classmates. I told the kids that they can bring in little things to add to their notes if they would like...NOT NECESSARY! If you have extra candy canes or Hershey Kisses at home, those work well.

We had two book machine winners this week! What an awesome gift the PTO purchased for our school! The kids get very excited when they earn a book. It's very hard to do! I love to see them congratulated their classmates!

We finished our fourth unit in our math books. Our next unit works a lot with base ten blocks and place value. We learned a new game this week that can help with that. You can easily play at home. It's called the Exchange Game. All you need is a bowl filled with 25 pennies, 25 dimes and a $1.00 bill. You take turns rolling a dice. Take pennies for each amount. Once you have ten pennies you exchange for a dime. Once you get ten dimes you exchange for a dollar and win. If your child gets really good at this, try playing it backwards. Start with $1.00 and take away until you get rid of all your money.

UPCOMING DATES

* Monday, December 15 - We will learn about Hanukkah!

* Friday, December 19 - Flex Friday, Pajama Day, Last school day until 2026!

* Monday, January 5th - School starts back up! We will learn about space and the author, Robert Munsch when we return!

VACATION HOMEWORK

* Two weeks is a long time to be away from reading, writing and math. I've had a few parents ask for some vacation work. Just like our every day HW, it is not mandatory. However, if you want to do some or all of it with your child, it's there. Anyone finishing the reading and math packets will get a prize for each! It's also a great idea to keep reading to your child each night. There are so many great holiday stories out there! Thank you notes are also a great way to practice writing!

GIFT IDEAS

* If you are still looking for gifts for your child, they LOVE different writing supplies. You could put a small box together with different kinds of paper, pens, stickers, markers, glue, scissors. They love to create! Card and Board games are awesome for math skills and social skills! Some old favorites of mine are: Uno, Sorry, Racko, Scattergories, Clue Jr. Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders, Connect Four, Old Maid and Go Fish. Books are always great, too!

Happy Weekend!
