Hi! What an exciting week! We wrote two new class books, What's In The Present? and The 14 Days of Christmas. Hopefully your child took time to read them to you. We had an amazing STEM day on Thursday. Kids made parachutes for Santa and tested them out to make sure he could land on target. They made ziplines for the gingerbread boy to escape the oven! It was fun watching them figure out quickly that the higher the incline, the faster he could go! We tried to make the tallest shelf possible for the elf to sit on. We used play-dough and popsicle sticks. We also tried to make the tallest Christmas tree we could out of cups and/or Magna tiles. It was great seeing the kids work together to figure things out! They also were able to present to Pre-K and even let them try out their inventions! Sometimes messes lead to the best thinking!
In Math we took time to play and build with base ten blocks. We then practiced making numbers into the hundreds place with them. We also worked on exchanging ones for tens and tens for hundreds. This will be our focus when we return from break.
We went on a sight word scoot around the hall. We had to find twelve elves and read/write the two words each one was holding. We then had to put four scrambled Christmas sentences together and write them. Lots of ELA fun!
We had so much fun opening up our Christmas Stockings today. The kids have been working so hard writing and drawing secret notes to each other. They loved reading kind wishes and comments from their classmates!
We are hopefully Zooming with Arya today from Alaska! It has been so much "traveling" from Veazie to Fairbanks with her! She even saw bison on the side of the road!
Our last Flex of 2026 was today! Most of our class went to "Christmas Eve" where we watched Rudolph, ate popcorn and drank juice. We then opened our one early Christmas gift. Each child got a pair of socks and a candy cane. We ended with a sing-a-long. (Thank you PTO for sponsoring this!!!) A couple of our classmates chose a snowman craft and cookies. It was a great way to end 2025 together!
Vacation Homework
Two weeks is a LONG time to be away from reading, writing and math. I've put packets in each child's folder. You can choose to have them do them or not. I did tell them I would give them ten gems for each packet done. I will not ask for the packet or make them think they should have it done. I wanted to at least give you an option. The most important thing for me is that they continue to read and be read to. The days I miss most with my own kids is reading to them. Go cuddle up with your kids and read a good book!
Looking ahead to 2026
Our themes for January through February break will be space, Robert Munsch with some snow thrown in. We will do lots of place value work, telling time and addition/subtraction with regrouping in math.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
It's been great working with your children and getting to know you all! I look forward to our time together in the New Year. I appreciate all of your support! Together, we'll make 2026 great!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
See you in 2026!
