SECOND GRADE NEWS

I can’t believe this is our last newsletter of November! This year is flying by! We were busy this week learning about rocks and minerals. We are making Rock Interactive Notebooks. We made 3-D turkeys and thankful pumpkins. They are hanging in our hallway.

We worked with our Primary Wing Buddies today. We read to them and helped them practice letters, sounds and reading strategies. Second Graders make wonderful teachers!

Monday and Tuesday we will continue with rocks. We will also be putting on some puppet show / readers theaters for Pre-K, K and 1. It will be a fun way to practice our reading fluency.

When we get back from Thanksgiving break we will finish up our rock unit and do a short social studies unit on Economics.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Thanksgiving Break begins Wednesday, Nov. 23rd.
  • Report cards come home Friday, Dec. 2nd.
  • Field trip to Collins Center at UMaine to see Cirque Mechanics: Pedal Punk on Monday, Dec. 4. Our entire school is going :)! Permission slips will come home after break.
  • Friday, Dec. 9th is Miss LaGrange’s last day. :(

Please make sure your child reads over break!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

A NEWSLETTER AND PICS ALL WRAPPED INTO ONE 11-10-16

SECOND GRADE NEWS

Hi! I'm sure you have all heard about what a crazy but exciting week we've had! Our classroom has physically moved into the old second grade room...the room that we were calling our Meeting Room this year. Next week K/1 will move into our old room. Pre-K will eventually end up in the old K room. It may sound crazy but it is actually a great thing for all the kids. I couldn't be more proud of our second graders! They have been so helpful with the move. They actually got to help a little in the move!  They also kept a positive attitude as they got relocated to another classroom for two days. Of course I need to give a HUGE shout out to Miss LaGrange who kept our regular curriculum going throughout the move these past two days! I will be able to finish up this weekend and we will officially start in our new room Monday morning!!

The book campaign was a huge success. Second graders campaigned, debated, shared information, and helped with polls. Mr. Cyr came and announced the book that won and read it to us. The vote was a close one! We were lucky...we got to hear the runner up book as well :)!

Making thank you cards to our Veterans!

We LOVE to read!

Today was a very special day! We had a Veteran's Day Celebration. Our school recognized Veterans from our families and community. It was great to meet one of our classmates great grandfather!
We had two classmates play Patriotic songs on the piano while two others asked a question to a Veteran in Afghanistan. We sang songs. listened to speeches, said thanks and shared a lunch. It was truly a wonderful celebration!

Have a great long weekend!
I can't wait to get back to work in our new classroom on Monday!

SECOND GRADE CAMPAIGNS!

MAKE SURE YOU VOTE ON TUESDAY!

Second Graders joined parties today and started planning their campaign! Thankfully they will be campaigning for books and not politicians ;)! We had started with three parties but no one joined the third. Our two standing "candidates" are:  LOST CAT and CREATURE FEATURES. We will have a short debate on Monday and voting will be Tuesday morning. Winning book will be read Tuesday afternoon by Mr. Cyr. The kids are VERY excited and eager to go through this election process.
