A FEW PICS FROM DAY TWO

Introducing
VCS Grades 1-2

We are enjoying our new flexible seating choices!
We wrote about ourselves.
These will hang with our minion self portraits.

Drawing and painting the backgrounds to go with our minions.

Some building, reading and creating time.

The dress up box was open during choice time!
It was a big hit!

We were SO EXCITED to get our Chrome books today!!!
If you go to portaportal.com and use the guess pass VCS2,
you can see some of the sites we went to.

It's been a fun, first two days!

A FEW FIRST DAY PICS

This is just a sneak peak of pics to come. As soon as I get everyone's permission slip back I will get more on. I normally post pics on Thursday or Friday night. Feel free to drag off, use or share any pictures of your child from the blog. I'm not a professional photographer but once and awhile I might get a good one you really like :)! I love taking pictures and feel it's a great way for you to see what your child is doing at school.

We made minions that look like us!

We read the book, First Day Jitters.
A clue fell out of the book.
We followed it and ended up on a school wide scavenger hunt!
When we got back to our room we found Jitter Juice, Minion snacks and Minion bracelets!

We had fun sharing our Minion bags!
Our class is One in a Minion!

We had a few minutes to explore some of our new room.

Remember...
I can put more pics on once I get permission slips in :)!

It was a great, first day!!

FIRST DAY...HOORAY!

GRADES 1-2 NEWS
AUGUST 30

Dear Parents,

Hi! We had a wonderful first day of school! I’m really excited to be back!  We are going to have a super year!

I have enclosed our specials schedule. You can always find it on the Blog by clicking on the Specials Tab above. Please note the days that the specials are on. Sneakers should be worn or brought for Phys. Ed. and Health days. Library books can be returned on or before Library day. We will be eating at 11:00 each day so we will have an afternoon snack this year. Our room is a PEANUT-FREE room.  Please, save peanut snacks for lunch or home. We will go outside each day. Feel free to put an extra bag of clothes or keep a sweatshirt in your child’s locker in case of mishaps or changing temperatures.

I will be sending home newsletters every Friday. This will keep you informed of what is going on in grade one. You can also check my blog for information at:  www.http://vcslk1.blogspot.com. Progress Notes will begin coming home mid/end September each Friday.  Everything I send home, including homework, will be placed in your child’s folder. There will be no homework the first two weeks of school. Please make sure your child brings his/her folder each day. This is also a good way for you to send in notes and lunch money. Lunch money should be in an envelope that has your child’s name on it.  I check folders first thing each morning.

Reminder about transportation schedules...if your child’s schedule is going to change, I need a note or phone call from you. I cannot accept a verbal message from your child for safety reasons.

Three important dates: Friday, Sept. 1st we will be walking to the river. Please have your child wear sneakers. Wednesday, Sept. 13th  at 5:30 is our Open House. Come see our classroom and eat spaghetti. Wednesday, September 20th is Picture Day. More information coming soon.

Once again, I am really looking forward to this year. Together, we can make this a great year for your child!

Sincerely,

Laurie M. Kimball

SUMMER PARENT LETTER

Dear Parents,

Hi! School is just around the corner. I’m really excited to get the opportunity to work with you and you child. Together we will make this a successful year!
I have enclosed a transportation schedule. Please fill it out and have your child return it to me on, or by, the first day of school. This will be the schedule your child will follow unless I get a note or phone call from you changing it. For safety reasons, I cannot take your child’s verbal statement of where s/he is going.
On the back of the transportation schedule you will find a social media release form. I update my classroom blog 2-3 times a week with pictures and news. The kids really enjoy seeing themselves and sharing what they are doing with family and friends. I do NOT use names. I also like to publish a lot on the school Facebook page. Again, I will not use names. I encourage you to let your child be a part of this. You may also use any of the pictures I take of your child that you like. Check out our classroom blog at: www.vcslk1.blogspot.com to get a feel of what our classroom will be like:)!

Your child will have his/her own personal locker. Please feel free to leave extra clothes in a labeled bag in this locker. This way your child can change if a mishap occurs (puddles, paint etc.). It also tends to start off cool and get hot by the afternoon the first couple of months. Feel free to leave a sweatshirt or shorts in the locker as well. I don’t mind if the kids change during the day.

We will have snack each morning. I also allow the kids to grab a “working snack” in the afternoon if they get hungry. It’s a good idea to pack an extra just in case :)!

I have some requests for school supplies. They are:

Crayola markers
water colors (8 circle kind)
1 labeled plastic folder (for homework and notes)
1 labeled one inch, three-ringed binder - Just saw these at $ Tree!
Clorox wipes
4-pack thin dry erase markers
1 box of plain, boring, brown band-aids
glue sticks

If you any questions, feel free to call me at school (947-6573). You can also reach me by e-mail at lkimball@veaziecs.org.

I want to make your child’s transition to Grade 1-2 as easy as possible, your’s too :)!

Sincerely,

Laurie Kimball

P.S. I will be at school on Tuesday, August 29th from 9:30 - 11:30. If you are around, stop by. I’d love to see you and your child!
