Welcome Back Parent Letter

Dear Parents,

Hi! School is just around the corner. I’m really excited to get the opportunity to work with you and your child. Together we will make this a successful year!

I have enclosed a transportation schedule. However, I already sent home a survey via email as well.  Please fill out one of them and return it to me on, or by, the first day of school. This will be the schedule your child will follow unless I get a note or phone call from you changing it. For safety reasons, I cannot take your child’s verbal statement of where s/he is going.

On the back of the transportation schedule you will find a social media release form. I update my classroom blog each week with pictures and news. The kids really enjoy seeing themselves and sharing what they are doing with family and friends. I also like to publish a lot on the School Facebook page. I encourage you to let your child be a part of this. You may also use any of the pictures I take of your child...just drag them off the page or screenshot. Check out our classroom blog at: www.vcslk1.blogspot.com to get a feel of what our classroom will be like:)!

Your child will have his/her own personal locker. Please feel free to leave extra clothes in a labeled bag in this locker. This way your child can change if a mishap occurs (puddles, paint etc.). It also tends to start off cool and get hot by the afternoon the first couple of months. Feel free to leave a sweatshirt or shorts in the locker as well. I don’t mind if the kids change during the day.

We will have a snack each morning. I also allow the kids to grab a “working snack” in the afternoon if they get hungry. It’s a good idea to pack an extra just in

case :)!

I have some requests for school supplies.

It would be great if you could bring these on Monday, August 25 or Tuesday, August 26 between 8:00 - 2:00 or during Open House. It will save your child from carrying it all on the first day of school. It will also give me time to organize it all.

Individual Supplies:

1 box of Ticonderoga pre-sharpened pencils

 1 8 or 10 packCrayola markers

1 12 or 24 packCrayola crayons

1 small pack Crayola colored pencils

4-pack thin dry erase markers

2 glue sticks

1 bottle of Elmer’s Glue

2 highlighters

scissors

1 one inch, three-ringed binder - only 1” will fit in work boxes, please label with name

Extra Items we could REALLY use:

Clorox wipes

tissues

1 box of plain, boring, brown band-aids

1 box gallon size Ziploc bags

1 box sandwich size Ziploc bags

We are also always looking for prizes for our treat box! :)

You might have noticed that your child no longer needs a plastic folder. The P.T.O. has graciously bought each child a special V.C.S. folder to use for the year. Also, please do not buy a pencil box or notebook for your child. We do not have room to store them.

If you have any questions, feel free to call me at school (947-6573). You can also reach me by e-mail at lkimball@veaziecs.org

I want to make your child’s transition to Grade 1 as easy as possible...

 your's too :)!

Sincerely,

Laurie Kimball

P.S. Can’t wait to see you at Open House on Tuesday, August 26th from 5:00 - 6:30. Our first day of school will be the following day.

P.S.S. This is the letter I will be sending to your child this week.

Hi! I’m so excited that it is almost time for school to start! We are going to have so much fun in first grade! Our first unit will be friends and routines. We will get to know our classroom and each other!

I’ve been busy working in our classroom, getting it ready for us! I’m sending you a special bag. I’d like you to put 3-5 items in it that tell about you. It can be photographs, toys, drawings, things you collect, tickets…anything that will make you remember what you want us to know! We will have a special show and tell on our first day together!

I hope you have a great rest of the summer! I will see you soon!! I can’t wait to be your teacher!

First Grade News and Pics 6/12/25

Well, the last week has come and gone. It was a great one! We did lots of special closing activities. On Monday, we had an escape room to figure out who stole our lemons. We figured it out and made homemade lemonade. The kids LOVED it! Great summertime activity! Tuesday, we had Step Up Day. We also read a book called, Last Day Blues. We talked about how one thing can make us happy and blue at the same time and that's okay! Wednesday, we had fun looking through our yearbooks. The kids were so cute as they remembered their favorite memories. We then signed each other's yearbooks. Today was field day. We had so many fun activities! Ask your child which ones s/he liked best.

I told the kids today that they have changed SO MUCH from the day they entered this classroom. They worked hard this year and formed a special school family. They grew smarter, kinder and more thoughtful. I couldn't be more proud of them! I also told them once they are in my class, they are my students forever. I look forward to watching them grow and seeing all their accomplishments!

Thank you parents for sharing your children with me. I appreciate your support. Together, we made this a successful year for your children.

Happy Summer!

Have a terrific summer and keep reading! <3
