SECOND GRADE NEWS 10-14-16

Hi! We’ve had a busy, short week! We learned more about volcanoes and added in earthquakes. We made edible volcanoes out of cupcakes, ice cream and strawberries...thank you to everyone who helped us by sending in stuff!

We read the book, SPOOKLEY, THE SQUARE PUMPKIN. We talked about how everyone is different and that is a good thing. We made 3-D pumpkins...thanks Colton and Seth for helping us out with the pattern! We also wrote about how we are unique!

We read MONSTER MASH and created our own monsters. We named them and brought them to “life” with written information. We also been listening to the song, MONSTER MASH, a lot this week :)!

We started Keyboarding! We are using the Free Typing Lessons website that you can find the link to on our Portaportal. Our password is VCS2. The kids are very excited about this! I’m hoping to have some fluent typists by the end of the year. I have some other typing games that they can play on the Portaportal as well.

Our play, THE UGLY PUMPKIN, is coming along nicely. We will start practicing on the stage sometime next week. We can’t wait to show it to you on Friday, Oct. 28th at 8:30 in the cafeteria.

HALLOWEEN

The Primary Wing will be having special Halloween STEM stations for the kids to go through on Monday, Oct. 31st in the morning. Students may wear their costumes to school as long as they are safe for the playground and don’t get in the way of their learning. No weapons, even costume related, are allowed. Masks can be used for pictures  but then need to stay in lockers. We will be sending home a list of ways you can help with our special activities next week.
