First Grade News 10-30-20

Hi! What an exciting week! We had so much fun dressing up each day. Thank you for all your help with that! The parade on Thursday was AWESOME! The kids were so cute and loved being able to show off their costumes. We'd like to thank everyone who donated candy and treats for the goody bags. As you can tell from the things that have come home each night we have a very generous class! We also had our school board chair, Kristen Bagley, donate a bag to each child in the school and our student council made bags up. PTO gave out free dinners to Texas Roadhouse as well. Such a great community! Our next units are: light and sound, fairy tales and Thanksgiving.

WINTER GEAR

It was FREEZING out on the field today. Please, make sure your child is dressed warm. We will be going out every day no matter what. The length of time will change though according to the weather. We were even wishing we had snow pants on today. It is also cold in our rooms. Feel free to send in a heavy sweatshirt or sweater to keep here at school.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We wrote stories in pumpkin shaped books. (Thank you to Grant's family for the Target gift card. We were able to purchase two different shaped books to publish in for each child.) We shared our stories today! We were sad to put away the Halloween books. We've had fun reading them all.

We are on our last book of Pixie Tricks! It's sad but exciting! We will have a special fairy house building day on Friday to celebrate. Feel free to send in gardening gloves and tools to help with our projects. They will come home again that day.

MATH

We learned a new math activity this week. It's called Frames and Arrows. The kids have to follow the rule to solve many math problems. Sometimes they have to figure out the pattern to find the rule. They're doing great with it. We also played Kahoot. They are getting so good at it!

REMOTE LEARNING

Just a reminder that if our county turns to yellow we will be face to face on Mondays and Tuesdays. The rest of the week would be remote. We're really hoping the numbers start going down again!
