First Grade Newsletter 9-22-23

Hello! We read LOTS of WISHY-WASHY books this week. We even made our own version of one of the stories. We finger painted with "mud" and sponge painted with "bubbles" to use as backdrops for our action shots. Make sure your child reads Wishy Washy First Grade to you this weekend!

We finished our first unit in math. Assessments came home today. We are working hard on making sure our numbers are going the right way. Tally marks are still hard for some. Any help at home with this would be great.  An overview of our upcoming unit came home today in folders. Math homework will start Monday.

We had our first UFLI assessment. It went well. Thank you for all the work you are doing at home. Next week we will be focusing on the short i sound like in the word dig. The assessments are in their folders. I am going to be changing them up a little next week in hopes to make them easier to understand. Sight words for next week are: to, do, of, see.  Homework practice for this sound will come home Monday.

We have been learning to use different websites on our chrome books. So far we have been on Prodigy, Boddle, Epic and IXL. Your child's passwords are coming home today in folders in case you want to log in and use any of those sights at home. There are other sights bookmarked in Portaportal so if you start there you can check them all out. Just go to www.portaportal.com and the guest password is VCS2.

Picture day is Friday, September 29th. We also have a field trip to Conant's Apple Orchard that day. Please make sure your child brings or wears appropriate outside clothes/shoes. We will give them time to change before we leave.

We have a half day on Thursday, October 5th (11:30 dismissal) and no school on Friday, Oct. 6th. These are teacher inservice days.

Happy Weekend!
