Phew...what a week! We have quite the little engineers in first grade! They did an amazing job at planning out and building their leprechaun traps! They also did a super job at explaining their traps to the entire school! Everyone was amazed at how well they spoke, very clear, loud and proud! We were pleasantly surprised that everyone "caught" a leprechaun in their trap this morning! It's been LOTS of fun!
We had a digraph review in UFLI. We worked on our marker boards so you will not see an assessment. Next week we start using long vowels made by the silent e on the end of words. We like to call the e, Mama E. When she is at the end of the word she is making the vowel say its name.
We are still working with time in math. We only have to learn the hour and half hour but we're throwing in more. We are also still adding and subtracting through number stories.
We had a visitor from three VCS alumni, Ben, Will and Kayson. They came and share the gold balls from football and basketball championships. Orono won both. They talked with the kids about how important it is to do well in the classroom so you can get to play sports. They also compared notes about first grade!
Next week we will get more into the rainforest.
