Hello! It's great to be back with the kids. They seemed happy and ready to go so vacation must have went well. We finished up our space unit with a special project, space station creation and a trip to the planetarium. We also figured out the Guess Box...Orbit Gum.
We celebrated Feb. 29th, Leap Day, with the entire school. We opened a time capsule and found LOTS of frogs that the PTO surprised us with. It was so much fun! Together as a school we found more than 200 so we get to have popcorn sometime soon. Our PTO is the best...so creative!
In math we finished our first book and started our new one. We will be working with time to the half hour. We will throw in some time to the minute for those that are ready. We are also working with using doubles to solve other problems. By knowing 6+6=12 we know that 6+7 is just one more.
We will be making leprechaun traps as a part of our engineering standards. I sent home ways you can help with those Thursday. I will attach the letters I sent home to this email in case your's didn't make it. Please do not feel you need to buy anything for this project. We've been looking at different ways to make traps. We will be making the traps on Tuesday, March 12th in hopes to share them with the school on Wednesday, March 13th. (St. Patrick's Day is on a Sunday this year so we will set them out early.)
Thursday, March 14th is an early release day. Students will be released at 11:25.
Friday, March 15th is a teacher inservice day. No school for students.
Our next unit will be on the rainforest and environmental studies.
