NEWSLETTER 9-2

SECOND GRADE NEWS

Hi! We are off and running in Grade Two!! I absolutely LOVE this class! They are excited about learning and definitely know how to have fun! We are working on our new routines. We are also talking lots about how to be the best student and classmate that we can be. We will begin our trimester long unit called Earth Happenings after we have all routines introduced and learned. Also, I will be doing Weekly Progress Notes again this year. However, I will not begin those until Friday, Sept. 16th.

We started our new math book. The first unit is really just a review to get the kids back into it after being away all summer. Daily homework in Math will begin in about eight more lessons.

We started Reading Workshop. The kids get three choices of books a day. They are keeping track of these titles in their Reading Logs. During this silent reading time Miss LaGrange, our student teacher, and I will be pulling groups to read and to practice word work. As we get going, students will be responding to the books they read for comprehension practice. One time read books will come home after group work to be re-read for homework. Students that are in longer books will need to keep their books at school to ensure they are here for group work. They still need to be reading nightly. Second Graders should be reading twenty minutes a night on school days. If you need books, your child can borrow from our class library or the school library.

During Grammar Time we began talking about nouns. We had fun going on a Noun Scavenger Hunt!
