NEWSLETTER 12-7-18

FIRST GRADE NEWS
DECEMBER 7
MRS. KIMBALL

Dear Parents,

Hi! It was great to see you all at the concert last night! The kids did a great job! We have been very busy in the classroom this week. We "traveled" to Israel and Australia to learn about their December traditions. We read books about each place and found them on the map. For Israel, we learned all about Hanukkah. We had latkes, played dreidel and had a special visit from the Barber family. We couldn't have a picnic as they do in Australia...too cold. However, we did have a special pudding snack and looked for a gold covered chocolate inside it. They say it's good luck if you find one. We also had fun drawing Santa on a surfboard. It's summer in Australia right now! Next week we will travel to Germany, France and England. Don't worry we'll be back in time for dismissal ;)!

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

I can't stress enough the importance of having your child read each night. The more that they practice, the easier it will get for them and more independent they will be. This time of year can be super crazy. However, there is nothing like ending the day with a good book in bed!
We wrote letters to Santa today. Warren is going to mail them for us at his special Santa mailbox outside of his house.

MATH

We took our Unit Four Assessment yesterday.  Everyone did so well we took today off and had fun with Lego Robotics. Ask your child what build s/he worked on.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

* Family Movie Night - TONIGHT at 6:00 p.m. in gym.
* Pajama Day - Thursday, Dec. 20th - last day before break.

DON'T FORGET

We go outside each day...usually twice. Please make sure your child has snow pants, jacket, boots, hat and mittens. We may not have much snow but it is very cold. Students also need shoe/sneakers to wear inside. Feel free to leave a pair in your child's locker. Boots are too hot to wear all day.
