Hello! This week was a blur! We finished up rivers by creating our own river and writing about it. Ask your child what his/her river was made of! We started talking about the ocean and all of its creatures. Each child will begin researching their favorite ocean animal next week!
We finished up Unit 7 in Math and started Unit 8. We will be doing lots with geometry and fractions. Unit 8 is our last unit in math. We will do a review of each chapter in Unit 9.
In UFLI we will be working with the soft c sound when it's made by ce in words. We will keep reviewing long vowels made by e on the end. Many can read the long vowel words but then leave off the e when writing them.
I had the pleasure of reading, The Cheesy Chimp by Taylor Lanham, to the kids this week. This book was actually written and illustrated by one of my former students, Taylor Chasse. We talked about how she was always writing and reading even back in first grade so if you love something and keep working at it, you can be anything.
First Grade End of Year Dates
Tuesday, May 7th - UMaine Steiners come to perform for us at 12:30.
Tuesday, May 7th - Talent Show Rehearsals (for those performing) 4:00 end time.
Wednesday, May 8th - Primary Music Concert. Please have your child in the cafeteria by 5:50. (Talent Show rehearsal was canceled for this date.)
Wednesday, May 15th - Talent Show - 1:00 for school, 6:30 for public
Thursday, May 16th - Firefighter Pete Visits
Friday, May 17th - Dragon Day - dress in dragon colors/style, bring in anything dragon
Friday, May 24th - Flex Friday
Monday, May 27th - Memorial Day, No school.
Friday, May 24th - Tie-dying T-shirts (Please send in a white t-shirt by this day.)
Friday, May 31st - Can tabs are due! Last day for turning them in!
Friday, June 7th - Sheep and Cow Barns (Tentative Date)
Thursday, June 13th - Field day. Last Student Day. 11:30 dismissal.
