Hello! We've had a busy and fun week! We rewrote a couple of books. Quick as a Cricket turned into a Superhero book. The kids worked with Peer Helpers to write a poem about themselves. First Grade then painted a sunset or night sky, cut out a cityscape and put a picture of themselves flying in it. Our other book was A My Name is. We turned it into F My Name is First Grade. The kids had to use the first letter of their name to write about what they would sell with a friend in a certain place. The books are currently in their book boxes for practice reading. They'll come home within the next couple of weeks.
We finished our first unit in math. I started the assessments. I like to assess them individually so that I can observe what they do and take notes on their thinking. We should finish Monday or Tuesday. Our next unit will be on Addition and Subtraction within ten.
We had fun celebrating National Talk Like a Pirate Day. We learned two new Secret Stories that pirates love, AR and OOK. We did an AR scoot in the hall. We had to find all the AR words. After finding them, we used our hook to get some treasure (tongs to pick up Munchkins). We did lots of other fun activities. Ask your child about them!
Mr. Baker will be joining us for 100 hours this semester. He will be with us every Wednesday. He will student teach with us for six weeks after December break. We welcome him!

* Thursday, September 25 - Field Trip to Conant's Apple Orchard. Bus leaves at 8:50. Parent chaperones are welcome. Feel free to send in some quarters so the first graders can feed the animals.
* Friday, September 26 - Cooking!! Our first FLEX Friday!!
* Thursday, October 9th - Field Trip to DownEast Railroad. Bus leaves at 8:40 and returns around 11:45. Please dress to be both outside and inside.
* Friday, October 10th - No School. Teacher Inservice.
* Monday, October 11th - No School. Indigenous People Day.
* Friday, October 24th - October Flex and Hullabaloo 5:00 - 6:30.
