NEWSLETTER 3-10-17

Hi! We welcomed Miss Noel, our student teacher. She will be with us for the next six weeks. We finished up our unit on Matter by making ice cream. Thank you to everyone who sent in items to help with this! Our third trimester Science unit will be Animals and Plants.

We will be doing some engineering next week as we try to catch a leprechaun! We will design and build our traps here at school. Please help us by sending in items you think will help with our builds.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We are learning about and reading Fables. We read a new one each day. We pick out vocab words and discuss the moral of the story. These come home nightly. Have your child practice his/her fluency by reading their Fable to you each day :)!

We took a week off from Dragon Masters to read James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. Today we got to see the University of Maine put on the play of this book. It was awesome!

We wrote stories about what we found at the end of the rainbow. We painted pictures to go with these stories. They are currently hanging in the hall.

We continued to write in our journal. Students are given a prompt to write persuasively about. We are working on hooking our reader in the first sentence, adding detail sentences and then wrapping it up with a strong conclusion.

MATH

We are measuring everything in sight! We are using inches, feet, yards, centimeters and meters. This is a fun unit because it gets us up and moving!

ITEMS OF INTEREST

• Swim went great! We have five more Tuesdays.

  * There will be no school Monday, March 13th due to a Teacher Inservice Day.

• Friday, March 17th we are going on a school-wide field trip to the Old Town

YMCA. Bus leaves at 11:30 and returns at 2:30. Students should dress for lots of

Activity and bring swimsuits and towels. A few of the activities they can choose

From are:  swim, climbing wall, foam pit and basketball court.

• March Book Orders are due on Friday, March 17th.
