NEWSLETTER 3-3-17

SECOND GRADE NEWS 3-3-17

Hi! It’s been a Seuss-tastic week in Grade Two! We had fun dressing up and doing special activities each day relating to a Dr. Seuss book. We especially loved making Oobleck as a response to BARTHOLOMEW AND THE OOBLECK. It also helped us learn more about matter! A huge thank you to everyone who sent in items on Friday for our special breakfast of Green Eggs and Ham! Next week we will finish up our unit on Matter.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We read lots of Dr. Seuss books. We read to our Primary Buddies. We wrote Alliterations. It was fun trying to use one letter in as many words as we could in one sentence. We made circus tents and wrote about running a circus. We also wrote on buckets to list all the places we’d like to go.

MATH

We are learning different ways to add lots of two digit numbers together. We look for multiples of ten. We can also add all the tens up, then add the all of the ones and finally add them both together. I’ve also taught them the “old fashioned” way of carrying. We used base ten blocks to practice. We also reviewed measuring with inches and centimeters.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

  • Maine author and photographer, Roger Stevens, came to visit. He shared one of his stories and told us what it’s like filming wild animals.

  • We did our first Box Break today!!! Picture a Scavenger Hunt / Escape Room type activity just in our classroom. We had four problems to figure out with our team in order to open each lock. Ask your child what we found inside the box!

  • Our student teacher, Miss Noel, will begin on Monday.

  • We will start our six week swim program on Tuesday. Don’t forget bathing suits and towels. Goggles are fine to bring...just label them :).
