FIRST GRADE NEWS 11-1-19

Hi! Can you believe it's November?! This year is going crazy fast! We learned about light this week. We have three new science words:  opaque, translucent, transparent. We did an experiment to see if we can really see in the dark. We will finish up this unit next week.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We finished reading CHARLOTTE'S WEB. We did some activities that went with the book. We wrote about a friend in the room. We made orb webs and "spun" an adjective in our web that describes ourselves. We also made barns and wrote inside of them about the book's theme and the character traits. We will top off this wonderful story by visiting the UMaine barns on Tuesday. Bus leaves at 8:40. Feel free to join us!

MATH

We started Unit Four. It works with measuring. It does a lot with using various objects to measure, such as paper clips and base ten blocks. I will also add inches, centimeters and feet to the unit. We had fun going on a "hunt" in our room on Thursday. We then sorted the objects and added up points.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

*  No Progress Notes this week. Everyone did the best they could with all the sickness going around
    and the excitement from Halloween.
*  Field trip - Tuesday, Nov. 5th. Dress for outside and for barns.
*  Parent - Teacher Conferences are next week. Be sure to check your child's folder for your time.
* There will be a book fair in the library next week. It will be open during conferences, too.
* The school is having a Veteran's Day Celebration on Friday, Nov. 8th. It is also having a blood
drive in the afternoon the same day.
* No school Monday, November 11th.

HAPPY WEEKEND!
