10-15 NEWS

It's been a short but busy week! We rewrote two books and turned them into wall stories. We turned Have You Seen My Cat into Have You Seen My Pumpkin. We finger painted with red and yellow to make orange jack-o-lanterns. We cut up sentences to add words to our story.

We then turned the book, The Monsters' Party, into a wall story. We created monsters and added speech bubbles.

For the past week we have been working together to write a new version of Pixie Tricks. We started the new story by "sharing the pen" and writing on chart paper. We then split into pairs and wrote a section on the story ourselves. We brought all of these section together and wrote a conclusion together. We did our editing with the help of our projector before we published. Each student is currently illustrating their own twenty page book called Pixies at Open House. We can't wait to share our awesome book!

This group is really coming together and doing an amazing job.  As we were finishing up our monster wall story, I let the kids have some free choice. I couldn't have been more proud of them when I checked in on what they chose to spend time doing. One large group was working together to write a play called Animal Tricks. They had divided up tasks and were collaborating with each other.

I had another group encouraging each other as they shared the iPad.

I had a group of engineers creating with Legos.

And last, but certainly not least, one of our first grade friends invented a new math game and was taking time to teach it to his classmates. He had even written out the directions.

It's so exciting to see that even in "play" they continue to educate themselves and each other. They are such a great group of kids. I am one proud teacher :)!

Happy Weekend!
