10-23 NEWS

     Hi! It has been a very busy week! We started a science unit on Sound and Light. We are learning how vibrations make sound. We even did some experiments so we could observe vibrations in action. We will continue this unit next week.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

     We worked on our reading fluency by creating a Halloween Joke Book. We are even getting to read our jokes on the morning announcements…so exciting! We also made a class book called WHO STOLE THE CANDY FROM THE CANDY BAG. 

We read some non-fiction books on spiders. We used our information to write Haiku, poems created by counting syllables in a 5,7,5 pattern. We added the poems to our marble painted cobwebs and handprint spiders.

MATH

     We finished our second assessment and started our third unit. Don’t forget to save the first parent letter of each unit because it has all of the answers to the homework incase you need them. We found three numbers on a domino to create number sentences. This taught the kids about finding two parts to make a total. We also worked with finding the missing part.

* Happy Birthday to Maria who turns seven on Sunday.  Thanks for the yummy muffins, brownies        and  candy, Maria!

* Thank you, Aurora for bringing in special Halloween bags filled with goodies for each student  

    today.  What a nice surprise!

* Next week is Red Ribbon Week. We will be celebrating as a school all week. Don’t forget to

   check how to dress each day :)!

* Friday, October 30 - VCS Student Council will be hosting a Halloween Hullabaloo from 

   4:30 - 6:30. There will be games, prizes and even a “haunted” house. The Darling’s Ice

   Cream Truck will be there as well! Come on out and wear your costume :)!
