10-2 NEWSLETTER

Hi! Can you believe it’s already October?! Time is flying by! We finished up our unit on friends today by having a special friendship day. We made Friendship Bread and had secret buddies. It was fun surprising our special friends at the end of the day with a treat and card to let them know who their buddy was. A huge thank you to everyone who helped with our Friendship Day activities. We will finish up with Super Heroes next week. We will wear the costumes we made on Wednesday afternoon when we become official First Grade Super Heroes!
READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS
Reading groups have started. If your child comes home with a book in his/her folder, please make sure s/he reads it to someone that night and then brings it back the next day. If there is no note, that means to read the entire book. As the books get longer I will send notes saying which pages to read.
We are writing up a storm! Writing is our favorite time of the day. This class has lots of great ideas. We are working on developing our topics to keep our audience’s attention. We are also writing a book together as a class. Can you guess the topic?! You guessed it...Pixie Tricks!
MATH
We are working on addition and subtraction. Unit boxes were introduced. These let us know what we are counting. We also continue to work with ways to make ten using ten frames.
CONFERENCES
Conferences are Thursday, Oct. 8th and Friday, Oct. 9th. Students will be released at 12:30 on Thursday and there is no school on Friday.
FIRE SAFETY
Next week is Fire Safety Week. Fire Fighter Pete will be visiting on Monday. We will walk to the fire station on Wednesday. We will leave at 8:15 and return at 9:45. Feel free to join us!
Have a great weekend!
