NEWS 1-15-16

Hi! Most of our “flat selves” have left the building and are currently traveling all over the United States! We cannot wait to get responses back so we can mark where everyone went on our classroom map. We made a book called ME ON THE MAP. It shows where we live starting with our school and town and ending with our planet! We will continue with this theme for a couple more weeks.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We’ve been reading lots of Robert Munsch books.  Ask your child which one is his/her favorite so far. We are also reading lots of snow books. We worked with the OW sound this week. We found words that have the OW sound in snow and words that have the OW sound we hear in cow. Knowing both sounds will help us when coming to a word we do not know. We practiced flipping the sound (or trying both).
We made snow people and wrote about what we like to do in the snow. We worked on using commas in lists so that we didn’t have too many ands.

MATH

We are still working with place value, measuring, adding and numbers. We learned a new game this week called Before and After. It is played with a deck of cards. Just take out the face cards. I sent home the directions for you to keep at home in case you want to try it out.
