NEWSLETTER 3-10-16

Hi! Here’s to our first full week of school in awhile! We had fun celebrating Dr. Seuss this week with our dress up days and special activities. We finished up learning about the moon and have now ventured further out into our solar system. Everyone is really into this unit, including me :)! We will continue with space until Friday, April 1st. We will end our unit with a trip to the Emera Astronomy Center at the University of Maine. Permission slips are attached. We will be seeing Earth, Sun and Moon at 10:00, breaking for lunch and then seeing Magic Tree House in Space at 11:30. Feel free to join us...the new planetarium is amazing!

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We have lots of reading going on. We are using Dr. Seuss books to practice fluency. We are using non-fiction space books to gather information about the planets. We are keeping the space facts in our Family of the Sun books.
We practiced our letter writing by writing thank you notes to a few of our recent visitors.

MATH

We started Unit Seven. Students were introduced to fact families and fact families. They are doing really well with the new concepts. Fact triangles can be kept at home and used to practice math facts. We are also working on counting up for subtraction problems.
