FIRST GRADES NEWS
OCTOBER 26
MRS. KIMBALL
Dear Parents,
Hi! Boy, have we been busy this week! We painted scenery and learned how to use the microphones. We practiced on stage without our scripts and even tried out our costumes. The play is coming together! We can't wait to show it to you on Wednesday at 8:30 in the cafeteria.
We started using the Lego Robotics kits this week. We use the WeDo 2.0 program. Each group followed directions to build Milo, the robot. They then took turns programming it. We will show you our robots after the play.
READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS
We learned about the painter Edvard Munch. We recreated his painting called THE SCREAM. We wrote about what might have been making us scream...luckily it all ended with us waking up ;)!
I've noticed some students really starting to take off in their reading. Keep up the practice at home. It helps so much with their confidence and fluency!
MATH
We are working with addition and subtraction. I'm encouraging the kids to always start at the largest number and count up. We've also practiced counting up to get our subtraction answer. Just start at the lowest number and see how many counts to get to the highest number. Sometimes that is easier than counting backwards. We began practicing doubles. If you are bored in the car, ask your child to answer some double facts (2+2=, 3+3=).
ITEMS OF INTEREST
* We are hoping you can join us Wednesday for our play, The UGLY PUMPKIN. It starts at 8:30
in the cafeteria. We will have you back to the classroom after. The whole production should only
be a half hour to forty-five minutes. The play itself is only 10-15 minutes.
* We are NOT wearing costumes to school on Halloween. However, we do have some special
activities planned. I've attached way(s) you can help out with this.
HAPPY WEEKEND!
