FIRST GRADE NEWS
OCTOBER 19
MRS. KIMBALL
Dear Parents,
Hi! Is it cold and windy enough for you?! We started our week with a trip to the fire station. It was lots of fun. The kids loved sitting in the driver's seat.
We took some time to learn about spiders since we are reading CHARLOTTE'S WEB. We compared the differences between insects and arachnids. We traced our hands to turn ourselves into spiders. We also learned how to draw an orb web.
READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS
Reading Workshop gets better each day. We are working hard to stay in one place and read the entire time from the books in our book box. Thank you for listening to your child read his/her guided reading book when it comes home. Please remember to sign the "bookmark" and return it with the book the next day.
We read the book, SPOOKLEY, THE SQUARE PUMPKIN. We wrote sentences about what is special about us. We also made 3-D pumpkins.
We rewrote the poem, LITTLE MISS MUFFET. We made colorful orb webs to go with our poems. You can check out all of our projects after the play on Halloween.
MATH
We finished up unit two. We started using Part / Part / Total boxes to help us figure out number stories. We used dominoes to fill in these diagrams. Each domino has three numbers to it.
