Hi! Can you believe it's October?! We have been busy learning about trains. We had a visit from a train conductor, Mr. Matt. He showed us some great pictures of all the trains he has worked on. He also talked to us about train safety and his job as a conductor. Mr. Matt had been in Mrs. Allen's third grade class. He loved trains even back then!
We did a K-2 activity. The kids were all mixed up and worked together to make their own train and train book. Next Wednesday, we will get together again for some more train fun!
New Secret Stories of the week: ie (Breaks the rule of two vowels go walking, first one does the talking. This is because e is tired of i getting to talk so much. E gives I some cookies and while his mouth is full E gets to talk!) Ing, Ang, Ong, Ung - rings like a bell, WH - so tired from running everywhere. Double Vowels - two vowels go walking, first one does the talking.
We figured out Ring Pops in the Guess Box! Of course, it was the day we practiced the ing ending!
We painted ghosts. Our eyes are showing in them to see if people can guess which ghost is our's!
We did an experiment with glue and glitter to see if we could make window clings. We will see if they work on Monday!
Our first week of homework went great! There is no homework on weekends. :)
We learned a new game in math. You take a paper plate and ten pennies. The "teacher" hides some pennies under the plate while the "student" hides their eyes. The extra pennies go on top of the plate. The student needs to figure out how many are under the plate by looking at what is left on top of it. This is helping us know all of our ten facts quickly.

* Wednesday, October 8th - K-2 Train Centers.
* Thursday, October 9th - Field Trip to DownEast Railroad. Bus leaves at 8:40 and returns around 11:45. Please dress to be both outside and inside. Chaperones, don't forget to send money for your tickets.
* Friday, October 10th - No School. Teacher Inservice.
* Monday, October 11th - No School. Indigenous People Day.
* Thursday, October 16th - Fire Fighter Pete Visits.
* Tuesday, October 21st - Field Trip to the UMaine Cow Barns. Bus leaves at 12:35 and returns at 2:25.
* Thursday, October 23rd - Field Trip to the Fire Station.
* Friday, October 24th - October Flex and Hullabaloo 5:00 - 6:30.
* Friday, October 31st - We will be doing some fun academic based Halloween activities. We will NOT be wearing costumes. I'd love someone to send in cookies or cupcakes, juice boxes, a bag on individually wrapped candy. We would need 16 of whatever you would like to send. Just email me so I know who's doing what.
