First Grade News and Pics 10/24/25

Hi! Can you tell the Hullabaloo is tonight? I sure can. So much excitement in the air! We had a busy week. We learned about fire safety. Firefighter Pete came to visit on Wednesday and then we visited him at the fire station on Thursday. We went to the UMaine Witter Farm on Tuesday as a response to our Wishy-Washy big books! We read lots of these big books to practice many different phonic skills. We also use them to practice reading fluently for meaning. We can't wait to bring home our First Grade Wishy Washy books. We will bring them home soon!

We have split our room into three groups and are practicing a Halloween Readers' Theatre. Each group will perform for a younger classroom on Wednesday or Thursday. After we will read our younger friends all of the many books we have made at school.

We started working with doubles in Math. Feel free to quiz your child while driving in the car. We are hoping to know our doubles through 12+12 without having to think about them.

We had our first UFLI assessment today. Our UFLI sound next week will be all, oll, ull. Ways to practice will come home Monday.

UPCOMING DATES

* Friday, October 24th - Hullabaloo 5:00 - 6:30. Have the best time! I won't be there because I'm helping my daughter move into her new house. I'd love to see pictures though if you take any!

* Wednesday, October 29th - Field trip to The Grand to see Frogtown Puppeteers present The Headless Horseman. Bus leaves at 8:45 and returns at 11:45.

* Thursday, October 30 - Pixie Tricks Day - We will be building fairy houses and doing special fairy activities to close out our Pixie Tricks Series we've been reading. Students should dress for outside building in the woods. (Things you can bring/use but not mandatory: garden gloves, gardening tools or plastic sand tools, anything that can be found in nature. We will find things out back of school but some kids like to bring things they've found in their own yard.) Student may also dress as characters from the books (fairy wings, wizard cloaks/capes, regular kid clothes).

* Friday, October 31st - We will be doing some fun academic based Halloween activities. We will NOT be wearing costumes.

Happy Weekend!!
