First Grade News 10-1-21

Hi! We have had a busy week! We've had some fun with apples as we learned about legends, specifically Johnny Appleseed. We had two apple treats, apple brownies and applesauce! Yum! We've done lots of talking about friendship and routines. We will continue those topics all year. However, we will focus more on Sound and Light for the next couple of weeks and then Spiders the last part of the month.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We rewrote two more books! They are called Rain Makes Applesauce and Lazy First Grade. Please have your child read them to you this weekend! I'm sure you'll enjoy them.

We worked on ap and and words. We also worked on two letter blends. If you get bored in the car, throw out some words to your child and have them rhyme them or tell you the first two letters in the word.

MATH

We are working hard to make sure we say the large number and then count up the next number when we add. We even learned a new game to help us practice this. Take a deck of cards and two dice. Each player takes one card and rolls their dice. Say the larger number and count up the rest. Player with larger amount gets the cards. Its Addition Top It. We are also working on starting our numbers from the top and working towards the bottom while making sure they're going the right direction.
